BSA urges to introduce control systems of program actives

The alliance of manufacturers of commercial software Business Software Alliance (BSA) has presented the grant for the business, called to give to the companies representation about financial advantages and technological effect from introduction of the concept of management by program actives (Software Asset Management, SAM).

The gran comprises the councils, helping to lower expenses, to lift productivity and an overall performance of the organisations, to limit the risks connected with installation of counterfeit software products and to provide conformity of the enterprise to legislative requirements and norms.

By results of the research spent BSA in territory of the Russian Federation, 63,6 % of the interrogated heads of the Russian enterprises never heard about SAM. Thus among small enterprises the share unfamiliar with practice SAM reaches 73 % whereas in the large enterprises about it did not hear 55 %. To raise awareness on concept SAM of corporate users and to tell about its advantages, BSA lets out the given grant.

Though for set of the companies the software is a basis of all business, many enterprises do not regard it as an active having paramount, critical value, – Alexey Chernyj , the co-ordinator of program BSA in Russia has told. – frequently value of program actives remains not noticed, and responsibility for the software account is assigned on department or to purchasing department; at the same time, as finally ON influences work off almost all business, management of program actives should be a prerogative of the chief executive or board of directors. The management concept program actives can help business both with the financial plan, and from positions of operational efficiency.

Introduction of processes on management of program actives, in turn, allows the enterprises to operate more effectively the software within the limits of corporation, guarantees presence of necessary licences and helps to avoid an operational and financial damage from use of not authorised versions of the software, including, claim requirements, penalties, losses or damage of the given and virus attacks. At the same time, the understanding of what software is used in the company, allows employees to coose more correctly program decisions, raising thereby own efficiency, and even allows to save at the expense of revealing of not used software products.
